Notes for Contributors
We welcome all contributions on any subject of relevance to a general Scottish audience. This means both Scots at home, and Scots abroad, and anyone of Scottish descent, who has been on holiday to Scotland, who owns a Scottie dog, or any other reason to feel Scottish. Being Scottish is a state of mind, not of geography. But having said this, we do not want to propagate the less attractive aspects that afflict some parts of Scottish culture. We want what appears here to be open and inclusive. This means we do not want anything sectarian, party political, fundamentalist, side-supporting, evangelical, or basically that will get up anyone else’s nose. Anyone posting such rubbish may be warned once, or may just be banned, depending on the seriousness of the offensiveness.
Also, please make sure any entry is of potentially general (as distinct from personal, parochial or purely local) interest. Small scale is fine if it has more wide-reaching significance, but family stuff is for individual blogs. For your guidance, here are a few more DOs and DON’Ts:
- Do write in clear, simple, grammatical English
- Scots language may of course be used appropriately, but please translate for English speakers if the meaning would be lost to them otherwise
- Don’t use txtspk or u wl b bnd
- Assign your entry to one of the existing categories, or suggest a new one
- If your entry is longer than a couple of paragraphs, use the Excerpt facility to abridge the main entry
- Do not promote any commercial concern, other than our sponsors
